TITANIUM SNAPSHOT: Steady demand results in relatively stable prices

Date: Jun 14, 2018

Key data from the Wednesday June 13 pricing session in Europe.

Key drivers
– Ferro-titanium prices have edged lower but steady demand should persist in the near term and keep prices in, or close to, the current range, sources said.
– A tender for three truckloads of ferro-titanium from Swedish steelmaker SSAB has been settled at well below $5 per kg, according to one trader who lost on a bid to sell one truckload for $4.45 duty delivered paid.
– The tender was for standard grade ferro-titanium but with lower vanadium content at 1.9% vanadium compared with the standard 2.5-3% vanadium content, sources said. Sources claimed a domestic supplier in Sweden won the tender.
– Almost 500 tonnes of alloy reportedly traded in the spot market this week at prices ranging between $4.90 per kg and $5.45 per kg duty delivered paid, with a deal at the upper end having a freight cost about $0.15 per kg above the typical cost in continental Europe due to the delivery location.
