NON-FERROUS WEEK IN BRIEF: Korea Zinc agrees contract terms; KMR delays manganese ore shipments; cobalt prices fall for first time since Oct

Base metals
Korea Zinc, the world’s largest custom zinc smelter by volume, has agreed to annual zinc concentrate supply contracts based on the treatment charges (TCs) set between Teck Resources and European smelters, Metal Bulletin understands.South Africa and New Zealand’s non-exemption from the United States’ Section 232 import tariffs is likely to have limited impact on Asian aluminium supply, and hence premiums.

Glencore posted a 21% or 5,100 tonnes year-on-year increase in nickel productionin the first three months of 2018, in line with its annual guidance of 127,000-137,000 tonnes.

South African miner Kudumane Manganese Resources (KMR) has delayed deliveries of some of its manganese ore shipments following heavy rains in the country’s Northern Cape region.

European spot prices for molybdic oxide and ferro-molybdenum dropped this week while May public holidays took place across much of the continent but trading activity is likely to pick back up in the near term, sources said.
