Ma’anshan Zhongke Metallurgical Material and Technology suspends vanadium nitride production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 6 Jun 18 – Affected by tight supply and high prices for raw material vanadium pentoxide flake, Ma’anshan Zhongke Metallurgical Material and Technology Co., Ltd. suspended production of vanadium nitride early this week, a source from the company revealed.
The source said, “Now it’s difficult to purchase raw material on the spot market as supply is limited. Though there are some small- and medium-sized producers of vanadium pentoxide flake who hold spot stocks, their quotations are too high and prices for vanadium pentoxide flake 98%min can be as high as RMB195,000/t (USD14.10/lb V) EXW D/P. So it’s difficult for us to maintain reasonable profits by using it in our production.” According to the source, one ton of vanadium pentoxide flake 98%min can produce 1.425t of vanadium nitride V77N14; based upon current quotations for vanadium pentoxide flake 98%min, and plus other costs of about RMB13,000/t (USD2.64/kg V), production costs for vanadium nitride are estimated to be RMB291,000/t (USD59.04/kg V) EXW D/P.
